Short answer

How should a roofing company market itself in 2026?

Roofing company marketing works in three layers: a search foundation (Google Business Profile, Local Services Ads, a fast service-page website), storm-triggered paid campaigns in the ZIP codes that just took damage, and a follow-up system that answers every lead within minutes. ajile Media has run this model for home-services clients since 2015.

Everything below is what we build, in the order we build it, with the tools we use to prove it worked: CallRail, BirdEye, ClickCease and our own ajileReports dashboard.

Why roofing marketing is a different problem than plumbing or HVAC

A plumber's phone rings at a steady rate all year. A roofer's phone rings in bursts: after a hailstorm, after a monsoon microburst, when an insurance adjuster approves a claim, and in the two weeks after a neighbor's roof goes on. The rest of the year, demand is quiet and every out-of-state storm chaser is bidding on the same "roof repair near me" search you are.

That pattern changes what good marketing looks like. A campaign built for steady demand will overspend in January and underspend the week after a storm. A roofing campaign needs a permanent foundation that earns trust year-round, plus paid spend that can be turned up within hours when weather creates demand, and turned off when it passes.

💡 Arizona's roofing calendar

The National Weather Service defines Arizona's monsoon season as June 15 through September 30. For Phoenix-area roofers, that window produces the year's highest volume of emergency repair searches, insurance claims and storm-damage leads, and it is when paid campaigns should already be built and approved, not started.

The search foundation: Google Business Profile and Local Services Ads

Before a single ad dollar is spent, two Google surfaces need to be right, because they sit above every organic result for "roofer near me" and "roof repair [city]".

Google Business Profile for roofers

Google Business Profile is the single highest-return asset a roofing company owns: it powers the local map pack, shows reviews and photos, and accepts direct calls and quote requests without a website visit. We set the primary category to Roofing Contractor, add every service Google offers for the category, and post project photos weekly.

The work that separates a profile that ranks in the 3-pack from one that doesn't is unglamorous: consistent name, address and phone across every directory (we clean up 100+ listings per client), a real service-area definition rather than a 200-mile radius, and a steady flow of reviews that mention the service and the city. Our Local SEO and Google Business Profile service covers this end to end, and we've written about why local SEO campaigns fail for home-service companies when this foundation is skipped.

Local Services Ads and the Google Guaranteed badge

Local Services Ads (LSA) appear above the paid search ads and above the map. Roofing is an eligible category, and you pay per lead rather than per click. To show the Google Guaranteed badge, Google verifies your license, insurance and background checks, which in Arizona means your Registrar of Contractors (ROC) license does double duty as a legal requirement and a marketing asset.

We manage LSA as a separate channel from Google Ads: its own budget, its own lead-dispute process (disputing junk leads is where most roofers leave money on the table), and its own line in reporting. Details on our Google Ads and LSA management.

Roofing Google Ads and PPC: storm-zone targeting

Roofing PPC is expensive by home-services standards. Third-party keyword tools put the average cost per click on "roofing seo" and "roofing marketing" terms at $20 to $60, and homeowner-intent terms like "roof repair near me" run higher in Phoenix during monsoon. Spending that money well comes down to four decisions:

  1. Geography by ZIP code, not by city. After a hail or microburst event we pull the affected ZIPs and shift budget there within 24 hours. A campaign set to "Phoenix metro" is paying for clicks from neighborhoods that took no damage.
  2. Call-only and call-extension ads during storm windows. A homeowner with water on the ceiling wants a phone number, not a landing page.
  3. Separate campaigns for replacement, repair and insurance-claim intent. "Hail damage roof insurance claim" converts differently from "roof replacement cost", and they need different landing pages.
  4. Click-fraud filtering. We run ClickCease on every roofing account. Competitor and bot clicks on high-CPC terms are a real cost, and blocking them is the cheapest optimization available.

The measure of a roofing Google Ads campaign is cost per booked inspection, not cost per click or cost per lead. ajile Media tracks this through CallRail: every campaign gets its own tracking number, every call is recorded and scored, and first-time callers are counted separately from repeat and spam calls.

Roofers who also run restoration or water-mitigation crews will find our water damage restoration marketing approach uses the same storm-triggered structure.

Roofing SEO: the pages that earn the calls you don't pay for

Roofing SEO is slower than paid, and it compounds. The pages that rank for a roofing company are rarely the homepage; they're service pages and city pages that answer one intent each:

  • One page per service: roof replacement, roof repair, tile roof underlayment replacement (a Phoenix-specific volume driver, since most Valley homes have tile over felt that fails at 15 to 25 years), flat and foam roofing, storm damage, commercial.
  • One page per city you actually serve, with content that could only be true of that city, not a find-and-replace template.
  • Informational content homeowners search before they call: "does insurance cover hail damage in Arizona", "how long does a tile roof last in Phoenix", "signs of monsoon roof damage".

Each of these gets a real title, a direct answer in the first paragraph, FAQ questions homeowners actually ask, and schema markup. Our SEO and GEO service also targets the AI answers that now sit above organic results for many roofing queries; a page that isn't cited there is invisible to a growing share of searchers.

⚠️ An honest note on timing

SEO on a competitive Phoenix roofing term takes three to six months to produce consistent calls. If the phone has to ring during this monsoon season, that is a Local Services Ads and Google Ads budget, not an SEO budget. We will tell you that on the first call rather than sell you the slower channel first.

Field marketing that digital should amplify, not replace

The roofers who grow fastest in the East Valley don't choose between yard signs and Google Ads. They connect them. Every active job is a neighborhood campaign: a branded yard sign during and after the install, door hangers or a 20-to-30-door knock on the surrounding street, and a geo-fenced Meta ad running to the same ZIP for the two weeks the sign is up. The digital spend makes the sign worth more; the sign makes the ad recognizable.

Two other channels belong in the plan. A structured referral program with a real incentive, promoted on invoices, in email signatures and on the website. And manufacturer directories: GAF and Owens Corning both list certified contractors, and that listing is free lead flow for any roofer who has earned the certification.

Reviews, response time and the follow-up system

Most roofing marketing fails after the lead arrives. A homeowner who fills out three quote forms hires the company that calls back first. Our conversion layer has three parts:

Missed-call tracking

CallRail flags every missed and abandoned call. We report the missed-call rate monthly, because a 20% miss rate on paid calls is a bigger leak than any keyword bid.

Review generation with BirdEye

Automated text and email review requests at job completion, routed to Google first. Reviews that mention the city and the service ("tile underlayment in Gilbert") do more for map rankings than generic five-star ratings.

Landing pages that book, not just inform

Every paid campaign lands on a page with one job: book the inspection. Click-to-call at the top, a short form, license number and insurance visible, recent local reviews. We build these on WordPress so the client owns them.

How we decide what to scale, refine or stop

Internally we call our operating system "Drink Our Own Champagne": every tactic we recommend to a roofing client is one we run on our own business first, and every channel gets one of three verdicts each month in ajileReports: scale it, refine it, or stop it.

The decision is made on cost per booked inspection by channel, pulled from CallRail call scoring and form attribution, never on impressions or clicks. A roofing campaign that produces cheap clicks and no inspections gets stopped in month one, not month six.

Our roofing marketing process

  1. Market and storm-zone discovery. Service area by ZIP, insurance-claim patterns, seasonality, who is currently winning the map pack and the LSA slots in your cities.
  2. Tracking before spend. CallRail numbers per channel, GA4 and Search Console verified, ClickCease installed, BirdEye connected. Nothing launches until attribution works.
  3. Foundation. Google Business Profile rebuild, LSA application and badge, service and city pages, review request automation.
  4. Paid launch. Search, call-only and Meta campaigns built and approved before monsoon season, with storm-zone budgets pre-staged.
  5. Monthly scale, refine or stop. Reported in ajileReports by cost per booked inspection and first-time callers, reviewed with you on a call.

Why roofers in the East Valley work with ajile Media

We are based in Gilbert, Arizona, and have worked with home-services companies since 2015. Our reviews are public: 4.9 stars across 47 Google reviews, 5.0 across 14 reviews on Clutch, and 4.8 across 93 on BirdEye, all verifiable on our reviews page. We are a Google Premier Partner, and the tools we use to run roofing campaigns are the same ones we use to run our own marketing.

Roofing marketing questions we get asked

What is the best marketing for a roofing company?

A verified Google Business Profile and Local Services Ads for year-round calls, Google Ads targeted to storm-damaged ZIP codes for demand spikes, and a review and follow-up system so leads convert. Yard signs and referrals still produce the highest close rates and should run alongside digital, not instead of it.

How much should a roofing company spend on marketing?

It depends on revenue goals, service mix and how competitive your cities are. We build budgets from the other direction: how many booked inspections you need per month, your close rate, and the cost per booked inspection each channel produces in your market. That number comes from tracking, not from a percentage-of-revenue rule.

Do Google Ads work for roofers?

Yes, when they are geo-targeted by ZIP code, split by intent (repair, replacement, insurance claim), protected from click fraud, and measured on booked inspections rather than clicks. Roofing clicks are expensive, so a loosely built campaign can spend a large budget with little to show for it.

How long does roofing SEO take to work?

Three to six months for consistent results on competitive terms in a market like Phoenix, sometimes faster for city and long-tail pages. Local Services Ads and Google Ads produce calls within days, which is why we run them while SEO builds.

Does ajile Media only work with Arizona roofers?

No. We are based in Gilbert, Arizona, and serve roofing and home-services companies across the United States and Canada. The storm-zone and seasonal approach adapts to hail belts, hurricane regions and winter markets.

Ready to see what your roofing marketing is actually producing?
